Technology has become part of almost everything we do. We use it to communicate, work, study, shop, and even make important decisions. Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and quantum computing are changing our lives much faster than ever before. These technologies bring many benefits. They help us work more efficiently, improve public services, solve complex problems, and create new business opportunities. However, they also raise important ethical questions about how technology should be used responsibly.

Over the years, whether during my time in Bank Negara Malaysia, serving on corporate boards or advising organisations across different industries, I have often been asked the same question: “How do we build organisations that people genuinely trust?” Many expect the answer to be better regulations, stricter enforcement or more comprehensive governance frameworks. Organised crime has evolved into one of the most significant security challenges of the twenty-first century. Today, organised crime encompasses human trafficking, migrant smuggling, cybercrime, money laundering, corruption, financial fraud, environmental crime, and illicit trade. These criminal enterprises generate billions of dollars annually while undermining economic stability, public trust and national security.
